L. Darlene Jensen B.A. (Honours), LL.B.
Darlene received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Communications from the University of Calgary in 1999 and her LL.B. from the University of Calgary in 2002. While at the University of Calgary law school, she was a Vice President of the Society of Law Students and volunteered for Student Legal Assistance, the Venture Development Clinic, and Calgary Legal Guidance. Darlene articled at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP and was on the Dean’s List in law school as one of the top ten in her year.
Darlene’s tenure as Vice President in Law School, work as a public relations director for one of Canada’s national political parties during their leadership race, and freelance writing for the Calgary Herald has provided her with considerable experience in dealing with the press and speaking on radio and television.
Darlene has appeared before municipal planning commissions, subdivision and development appeal boards, municipal councils, the Municipal Government Board, Court of Queen’s Bench, and Court of Appeal. She also has specific experience in areas such as reviewing contracts for services, the nature and validity of restrictive covenants, expropriations, Water Act issues, preparation of commercial leases, enforcement issues, and other issues concerning the Municipal Government Act. Darlene has also taken a lead role in implementing subdivisions through drafting and completion of development agreements and other related contracts and in negotiating a utility agreement between the Town of Chestermere and the Western Irrigation District.
Darlene Jensen and Barry Windsor commenced the new practice of Windsor Jensen LLP in 2007, after working together in private practice for the previous two and a half years.
Darlene is married to Oliver Jensen and has a fourteen-year-old son, Jamie, two dogs, Buddy and Samson, and a cat, Jack. She enjoys the outdoors, particularly playing on her co-ed hockey team, as well as snowboarding, golf, and water-sports. Darlene is passionate about the arts, including drama, music, literature and painting, as well as historical studies and travel.
Darlene is the law instructor for the University of Calgary Real Estate Development Certificate Program, which focuses on the expertise required from the disciplines of management, finance, engineering, urban planning, design, project management, architecture, and law for those interested in advancing their knowledge of the development process for the creation of residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
Darlene is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, Canadian Bar Association, Calgary Bar Association, Urban Development Institute, is a volunteer lawyer with the Student Legal Assistance program (University of Calgary), and is a volunteer mentor for University of Calgary law students.
